CEO Summer Course 2009
5 Jul 2009 - 17:00 - 7 Jul 2009 - 00:00
Brussels
From 5-7 July, Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO) will organise its first two-day summer course on the power of corporate lobbying in Brussels. We hope we can inspire and engage a group of new active people in our work to challenge the corporate capture of EU decision-making.
The first day will include lectures and workshops on EU lobbycracy and an introduction to the role of corporate lobbying in decision-making in the European Commission and the European Parliament. The second day will examine some examples of how corporate lobbying affects specific EU policies (e.g. financial services, climate, etc.), as well as including a guided tour of the EU quarter in Brussels, and practical workshops on research and outreach tools (using the EU lobbyists' lobbyists' register, access to documents, media outreach). The summer course will take place in the Mundo building in Brussels, where CEO is based, and in the surrounding EU quarter.
Applications are invited from activists, campaigners, students and journalists from anywhere in the EU. If you are interested, please write us a short letter including the reasons why you want to come and details of your background experience or studies. Please also tell us what would interest you most from a course on EU & corporate lobbying. Deadline for applications is the 31st of May. Please send this motivation letter to:
ceo (at) corporateeurope.org
We will let you know as soon as possible after the deadline whether we have been able to accept your application. CEO will provide travel costs (preferably by train), lunches and one dinner. Participants are asked to arrange their own accommodation, for which we will send out a list of budget options.
